Bengaluru FC resumed the salaries of first-team players and staff on Saturday, reversing the suspension enforced last month due to uncertainty regarding the Indian Super League’s (ISL) future. The announcement also confirmed that all pending payments have been settled.

On August 5, the Blues had indefinitely suspended salary payments after Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) put the ISL ‘on hold’ due to complications over the renewal of the Master Rights Agreement (MRA) signed with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) in 2010.

With AIFF and FSDL recently informing the Supreme Court that they will initiate a tendering process to select a new commercial partner, expected to be concluded by October 15, BFC decided to resume normal operations.

Bengaluru FC stated that salaries of players and staff have been reinstated, with all pending payments completed in full. The club emphasised its commitment to the growth of Indian football and to providing its players, staff, and supporters with the highest standards of professionalism and excellence.

The decision comes at a pivotal time, with AIFF also announcing dates for the Super Cup, scheduled from October 25 to November 22. Bengaluru FC confirmed their participation and will begin pre-season training on September 16 at their newly inaugurated training facility. The club expressed optimism as they prepare for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

Meanwhile, Odisha FC has opted out of the Super Cup for now, becoming the only ISL club to do so. The club’s owner, Rohan Sharma, explained the decision on social media, citing financial uncertainty as the primary reason.

Sharma expressed frustration over the lack of an official start date for the league and the absence of a TV sponsor, making it challenging to justify spending to his board with no incoming revenue. He highlighted the high costs associated with running a football club and stressed that without clarity on league dates, receivables, and future stability, he cannot commit resources.

Sharma assured that the club is ready to participate in any competition once the ISL schedule is finalised, stressing that the decision was based on financial prudence rather than a lack of commitment to Indian football.
