Bengaluru FC, the 2018-19 Indian Super League champions, have indefinitely suspended player and staff salaries amidst the uncertainty surrounding the league, which was supposed to start by the end of next month, but in the current scenario, doesn’t see an initiation anytime soon.
The AIFF will hold an important meeting with the chief executives of eight ISL clubs on Thursday in New Delhi after growing unrest over the current state and direction of Indian football.
The 15-year Master Rights Agreement between the All India Football Federation and Football Sports Development Limited, the federation’s commercial and marketing partner, is all set to expire on December 8.
By that time, the ISL, held between September and April, would be in progress, making it essential for teams and broadcasters to have long-term clarity for logistical planning and commercial activations.
But AIFF has been restrained from negotiating new terms until the Supreme Court pronounces its judgment on the federation’s draft constitution case.
“Running and sustaining a football club in India has always been an uphill climb, one that we have put everything aside and made, season after season. However, the lack of clarity on the League’s future leaves us with no choice but to take this step," Bengaluru FC tweeted on Monday night.
“The future and well-being of our players, staff and their families is of utmost importance to us and we are in touch with them as we wait for a resolution," the statement said.
“The Club remains committed to growing and developing the sport and our operations with our youth teams, men and women and BFC Soccer Schools remain unaffected by this decision," the statement added.
Last month, FSDL, the organiser of the Indian Super League, announced that the 2025–26 season had been put “on hold" due to unresolved contractual disputes.
The next day, the federation said that it would take all necessary measures to ensure the Indian Super League continues as planned, but there has been no development towards it.
