 Man high on ganja breaks into home, attempts to rape disabled woman; locals thrash accused

BENGALURU: A 28-year-old man was beaten black and blue by the public after he allegedly attempted to rape a disabled woman in Adugodi on November 10. The accused has been identified as Vignesh, also known as Dyadu.According to police, the victim’s family went to attend a wedding, leaving the young woman, who is speech and physically challenged, alone at home. Around 11 am, Vignesh, allegedly under the influence of ganja, entered the house, locked it from inside, and disrobed the woman.When the woman’s mother returned, she found the door bolted from inside. After repeated knocking went unanswered, the door was opened, and she was horrified to find her daughter naked and the accused wearing clothes and trying to escape from the spot in his undergarments.

Alerted by the commotion, locals chased and caught the accused, who was beaten black and blue and later handed over to the Adugodi police. The police registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 75 (sexual harassment), 76 (assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to disrobe), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 333 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault, or wrongful restraint) based on the complaint filed by the mother.

The victim is under medical and psychological care. Local residents demanded stringent action against the accused, calling the act ‘inhuman’. The police have subjected the accused to medical test and awaiting for results.(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
