A 29-year-old Human Resources (HR) executive working with an IT firm was critically injured when a branch of a roadside tree fell on him while he was riding his two-wheeler on Brahma Chaitanya Road in Hanumantha Nagar on Sunday afternoon.

The victim has been identified as Akshay Shivaram, a resident of Srinivasa Nagar.

According to the police, Akshay was returning home after buying essentials for home when a tree branch fell on him near the Brahma Chaitanya Mandir around 1 p.m. on Sunday. Akshay lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a car parked on the roadside. Since he was not wearing a helmet, he sustained a severe head injury, the police said.

Passers-by rushed him to a nearby private hospital. He was later shifted to Apollo Hospital, where he underwent surgery and is currently being treated in an ICU.

Sources said that there was light rain and strong wind in the area that broke the tree branch.
