A 65-year-old homemaker was found murdered in her Uttarahalli residence, with police suspecting a known assailant robbed her of a gold mangalya chain

BENGALURU: A 65-year-old woman was found murdered at her residence in Uttarahalli on Tuesday evening. Police suspect that she was killed by someone known to her and robbed of her gold mangalya chain.The deceased has been identified as Shrilakshmi, a homemaker. According to the complaint filed by her husband, Ashwath Narayan, with Subramanyapura police, he left for work around 9:30 am on Tuesday. He tried calling her around 2:15 pm, but the call went unanswered. Multiple attempts between 2:15 pm and 5:30 pm also went unanswered.Growing suspicious, he contacted his tenant, Paniraj, around 5:30 pm and told him his wife was not answering his calls and asked him to check on her.

Paniraj told him he was not at home and would ask his wife to check. Paniraj called back Narayan around 6 pm and informed him that Shrilakshmi was found lying motionless on the floor.

Ashwath rushed home and, with the help of neighbours, moved her to the bed, only to realise she was already dead. He also noticed injuries on her neck, lip, and face, and that her gold mangalya chain was missing. His family members were alerted about the incident.

Shrilakshmi’s elder sister, Sampathi Lakshmi, told Narayan that she called Shrilakshmi around 1 pm. During the call, Shrilakshmi mentioned a couple visited her house and they were checking on the television. So, she stepped outside and talking to her. Narayan suspects the couple mentioned by Sampathi killed his wife and robbed her mangalya chain.Based on the complaint filed by Narayan, the Subramanyapura police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 103 (punishment for murder) and 311 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt). Investigation is underway to identify and trace the suspects. The CCTV of the surrounding buildings is being verified to ascertain clues. There were no circumstances of forced entry into the house, a senior officer said.
