The much-delayed Ejipura flyover project has encountered yet another setback, forcing the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to extend its deadline once more, this time to June 2026. The earlier target for completion was March 2026.

BBMP Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao stated that delays in land acquisition and the slowing pace of construction had compelled the civic body to push the deadline.

Earlier this month, a small crack in the structure caused panic, prompting the BBMP to rope in a professor from the Indian Institute of Science to assess the issue. Mr. Rao confirmed that the report found no major lapses and ruled out any structural weakness.

“There was a minor problem in the launching girder, which led to the crack. We will conduct additional tests and fix it with extra reinforcement,” he explained.

Turning to other projects, Mr. Rao said that white-topping works on J.C. Road is currently under way and should be completed within the next 20 to 25 days. However, full completion of the stretch and its reopening for full traffic will take a few more months, according to another source.

Reduced traffic

Mr. Rao revealed that traffic congestion at the Hebbal flyover and the Silk Board junction has eased following the opening of a new loop at Hebbal and the launch of the metro’s Yellow Line. He added that once another loop under construction is completed, traffic flow in the area is expected to improve further.
