Bengaluru techie duped of Rs 28 lakh in online job scam; fraud case filed

UDUPI: A techie fell prey to an online job scam, losing about Rs 28.01 lakh. In a complaint, Shashidhar, 31, a software engineer employed with a company in Bengaluru, was working from home at his residence for the past 15 days.On May 29, he received a message on his mobile number regarding a job opportunity to submit his resume. Upon clicking the provided link, he was contacted through the Telegram app by a person named Sharmai Rani. She added him to a group and began assigning him tasks.Initially, after completing a few tasks, Shashidhar received some payments as reimbursement, which built his trust. Following this, the accused shared multiple bank account details and instructed him to continue completing tasks and make payments.Believing the instructions to be genuine, Shashidhar allegedly transferred a total of Rs 28,01,095 between May 30 and June 12. The accused allegedly lured him with promises of double returns upon task completion but defrauded him after collecting the money. A case was registered at the Kota Police Station under Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act.
