The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) has urged consumers to ensure that their electricity meters are installed in easily accessible locations to facilitate accurate meter reading using optical port probe technology.
In a statement, the Bescom said that many meters have been fixed at elevated or hard-to-reach spots, making it difficult for meter readers to record consumption data.
To address this issue, the Bescom has requested consumers to position their electricity meters at a height of 5 to 5.5 ft from the ground level. The company said that compliance with this guideline would ensure smooth and timely generation of electricity bills through the new digital reading system.
Helpline for electricity related complaints
The Bescom also requested farmers and the general public to register electricity-related complaints through its helpline number 1912 or via WhatsApp helpline numbers designated for each district.
Consumers facing transformer failures, power outages, or other supply issues are advised to the helpline number to log complaints. In case the helpline is unavailable, they can send a WhatsApp message to the number specific to their area.
