The Irrigation Consultative Committee of Bhadra reservoir has appealed to farmers, who are benefited by the left bank canal of the reservoir, not to sow paddy or any other water-intensive crop expecting water from the reservoir this kharif, as authorities have taken up the work of installing a new gate for the left bank canal.

The left bank canal provides water for command areas in Bhadravati and Tarikere taluks. The Executive Engineer of Bhadra dam has stated that the work to replace the gate would take approximately one-and-a-half months. Hence, the authorities would not release water through the canal during this season.

On June 16, the member-secretary of the ICC asked farmers not to grow either paddy or any water-intensive crop hoping for water from the reservoir. If they suffer any loss after growing such crops, the Department of Water Resources would not be responsible.
