 Elderly woman dies under suspicious circumstances in Govindpura, grandson detained

BHOPAL: The death of a 95-year-old woman under suspicious circumstances in the Govindpura area has left police puzzled. Govindpura police stated that the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received.Initial questioning of the deceased's grandson revealed that the elderly woman fell into a drain two days prior and received medical treatment for her injuries. A doctor was also called to the house on Sunday for further treatment. Now, the police plan to question the treating doctor to determine what specific ailments the woman was being treated for.According to the police, they received information around 9 PM on Sunday about the body of an elderly woman lying in an under-construction building located in Gautam Nagar.

Upon arrival, the police called the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team for on-site investigation, and senior police officers also inspected the scene.The deceased has been identified as Itwari Bai, 95, originally from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. She was living in Bhopal with her grandson Kartik for the past month. Injuries were found on her body, prompting suspicion among local residents, some of whom pointed fingers at Kartik.

As a result, the police took him into custody for questioning.Police are now collecting statements and evidence from labourers working at the construction site and other local residents to determine the circumstances that led to the woman’s injuries and death.Grandson Works as Watchman at the SitePreliminary investigation revealed that Kartik works as a watchman at the same building where the incident occurred. He brought his grandmother to Bhopal about a month ago to take care of her. During police interrogation, Kartik said that his grandmother injured herself after falling into a drain two days earlier and received medical treatment. On Sunday morning, around 11 AM, he called the doctor again to their residence. The doctor administered an injection and left, but by evening, the woman died suddenly.Govindpura SHO Awadhesh Singh Tomar said that police have registered a case of unnatural death and are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the cause of death. Further action will be based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
