VARANASI: The Centre of Excellence for Adolescent Health and Development at Sir Sunderlal Hospital, Banaras Hindu University, in collaboration with Mamta Health Institute for Mother and Child, New Delhi, and National Health Mission, UP Govt, Varanasi, celebrated National Nutrition Week on Tuesday with a focus on the theme "Eat Right for a Better Life.
" The event aimed to raise awareness about the significance of nutrition, balanced diets, and their impact on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and polycystic ovary disease (PCOD).The program commenced with a warm welcome by Harsh Kumar Singh, a counsellor at the centre. The resource persons included Prof. Devesh Prakash Yadav, Head of Gastroenterology at the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU, and Prof. Mamta from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at IMS.
Under the supervision of Prof. Sangeeta Rai, Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Nodal Officer of the Centre, the discussions highlighted critical nutritional issues.Prof. Mamta emphasised the importance of nutrition for adolescent girls in preventing anaemia and PCOD while promoting healthy dietary practices among pregnant and lactating mothers. She underscored that proper nutrition is essential for both maternal and child health.
Prof. Devesh Prakash Yadav elaborated on nutrition-related gastroenterological facts, discussing preventive measures against various gastrointestinal disorders linked to poor dietary habits. The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment facilitated by Dr. Yadav and Dr. Mamta, allowing attendees to engage directly with experts on pressing nutritional concerns. The event served as a valuable platform for educating participants about the pivotal role of nutrition in fostering healthier lifestyles and preventing chronic health issues.
