Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini on Sunday (September 7, 2025) visited canal headworks at Baliawala, Koodni and Chandpura Saifan and surrounding rain-affected areas of Fatehabad district to take stock of the waterlogging situation. He met local people and farmers and assured them of all possible help.
Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, visiting parts of Rohtak district which was flooded in the recent rains, demanded immediate compensation for the affected farmers.
More than two lakh farmers across 4,853 villages have registered 13.77 lakh acre land on e-kshatipurti portal seeking compensation for damaged crops.
Mr. Saini said the State government would ensure compensation for the losses to the farmers. For this, e-compensation portal had been opened and a compensation amount would be provided to the farmers soon. He assured the farmers that the State government stood by them strongly and those whose houses or roofs were damaged would also be given relief.
The Deputy Commissioner was instructed to prepare a list of houses damaged and give them compensation at the earliest, said Mr. Saini, adding that a month ago, ₹78.50 crore was released under the Baba Saheb Ambedkar Awas Yojana.
Mr. Hooda also visited the flood-affected areas for the second consecutive day on Sunday. He listened to people of their problems and instructed officials to provide them immediate relief.
‘BJP govt. handed over people to portal’
Talking to journalists, he said the situation of flood and waterlogging remained serious due to the failure of the BJP government. “People need immediate help and compensation, but instead of getting a special Girdawari of the damage done, the government has once again handed over people to the portal,” he stated.
“For the last several years, instead of giving compensation, the government is playing the game of portals. Due to this system, 90% of the people suffering from any disaster do not get compensation. Even for the few who get the compensation, it takes several months to get it. That is why the Congress and all the victims demand that leaving the hassle of the portal, financial help should be directly provided to the farmers,” he added.
Mr. Hooda, who himself drove a tractor along with the farmers to visit the flood-affected areas of Meham and Kalanaur constituency, said the entire standing crop in the fields had been destroyed. “Looking at the waterlogging, there is no hope of the upcoming crop. Therefore, farmers should get compensation of at least ₹60,000-70,000 per acre,” he noted.
“Along with this, the government should also give compensation for the damage caused to people’s houses, shops and other buildings. The central government should also announce a relief package for flood-affected States such as Haryana, Punjab, and Himachal,” he demanded.
