The Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) which is targeting to complete the second phase of the Kempegowda International Airport’s (KIA) Terminal-2 by 2029 has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for carrying out enabling works for the project.
BIAL is seeking to appoint a qualified contractor to execute the site enabling works for the project which is expected to increase the airport passenger capacity by another 20 million passengers per annum.
Scope of work
The scope of work include site preparation and earthworks, demolition and removal of non-essential or obstructing structures within the designated work area, road strengthening and access setup, barricading and safety measures, tunnel coordination and maintenance along with miscellaneous works such as utility relocation, drainage setup, and removal of obstructing elements among others.
Terminal-2 is a 2,55,661 sq m terminal. The first phase of T-2 was inaugurated in 2022, and it began domestic and international operations in January 2023 and September 2023, respectively.
“The second phase of Terminal 2 will add capacity for another 20 million passengers per annum and is expected to be completed in BIAL’s fiscal year 2029. The combined capacity of the existing terminal and Terminal 2 when completed will be approximately 80 million passengers per annum,” states the 2024 Annual Report of Fairfax India Holdings Corporation.
Third terminal
Fairfax India holds 74.0% equity interest in BIAL. BIAL is also planning a third terminal at the airport which is expected to be completed in the fiscal year 2034.
The combined capacity of the existing terminal, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 is expected to be beyond 90 million passengers per annum.
