The Cochin zonal unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) claimed to have foiled an attempt to smuggle diamonds worth ₹2 crore out of India by intercepting a passenger at the Cochin International Airport.
The alleged smuggler, whose identity has not been revealed, was travelling to Thailand. The recovered diamonds were concealed inside the body of the accused. DRI officers intercepted the passenger based on specific intelligence, according to an official release. The DRI said further investigation was on.
The unit, according to a communication, had seized drugs worth around ₹40 crore in the current financial year, the release said.
