An Indian, who gave up the country’s citizenship to become a Canadian citizen, has expressed regret on social media, saying they now wish to return to India.

In a post on Reddit, titled “Canadian citizen, considering moving back to India forever," the user, who took Canadian citizenship about a year and a half ago, said they felt it was the “biggest mistake" of their life, due to what they described as growing anti-Indian sentiment in Canada.

“The increased anti-Indian sentiment I feel like is only going to get worse," they wrote.

The user sought advice from people with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) status who have moved back to India and live and work there, asking about legal hurdles and job prospects.

A viral post on Reddit

The post received mixed responses, with multiple Reddit users sharing their experiences.

“I’m a recent Canadian citizen from South India. I’m moving back to India for some time very soon, to focus on better health," a comment read.
