PATNA: On a single stretch of Beerchand Patel Path, with mere few-step distances separating the BJP and JD(U) party offices that celebrated victory, the RJD headquarters in the middle became an island of despair. The landslide win tipping the scales in favor of the NDA alliance, though largely expected by many in Patna, played out in dramatic contrast between the neighbours. The gates to the RJD office opened to reveal only a handful of people outside. Inside, the crowd was predominantly men, seated gloomily in front of a giant screen, watching the counting proceed with a dwindling glimmer of hope. The air was heavy, suggesting a profound sense of denial and anger regarding the outcome. However, Ravindra Yadav, an RJD worker from Sasaram, maintained a defiant stance: "I am 200% sure Raghopur is ours."
His insistence on the party winning a minimum of 130 seats hinted at the delusional hope that can only persist in the face of absolute defeat.RJD spokesperson Ejas Ahmed took the denial further, suggesting foul play. "Some game has been played somewhere," he asserted. "We will provide details after reviewing it in a meeting. We went to the people on the basis of issues and campaigned on issues. This surprising result, this foul play in the outcome, is a collusion between the central govt and the Bihar govt."
Meanwhile, at the Congress office in Sadaqat Ashram, the mood was equally subdued, with party workers sitting in front of a screen watching the counting with despair, though the party's spokesperson, Rajesh Rathore, offered a more measured response."This is the people's mandate," Rathore said.
