Lalan Singh and Anant Singh share a strong bond in Mokama politics. This was clear in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls when Anant, out on parole, backed Lalan Singh

The Mokama assembly seat has once again turned into a battleground for dominant Bhumihar leaders, with rival factions sharpening their positions as Bihar heads into a high-stakes election.
Former MLA and JDU candidate Anant Singh was jailed mid-election in the Dularchand Yadav murder case, prompting Union Minister and JDU MP Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh) to step in and campaign on his behalf.
During a recent rally, Lalan Singh urged voters to support Anant Singh, stating, “Everyone should fight the election as Anant Singh. My responsibility has increased now that he is in jail, and I have taken charge of Mokama."
Lalan Singh asserted that Anant Singh’s incarceration was a testament to Nitish Kumar’s commitment to good governance and hinted at a conspiracy against Anant Singh. He emphasised that the truth will emerge once investigations are complete.
Lalan Singh Steps In To Uphold Political Friendship
Lalan Singh and Anant Singh share a strong camaraderie in Mokama politics. This bond was evident during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections when Anant Singh, out on parole, aided Lalan Singh, who was facing challenges in the Munger seat. According to political experts, this support helped Lalan Singh secure a win and subsequently become a minister in the central government.
Political commentators claim that Lalan Singh is reciprocating the favour by actively campaigning for Anant Singh, holding public meetings from Monday onwards.
Lallan Singh Against Surajbhan Singh In Mokama
In Mokama, the primary contest appears to be between Anant Singh and RJD candidate Veena Devi. However, according to political experts, the real battle is between Lalan Singh and Surajbhan Singh. With Anant Singh behind bars, Lalan Singh is spearheading his campaign, while Veena Devi’s husband, Surajbhan Singh, is campaigning fervently for her. Both leaders are strategising and mobilising their resources for a vigorous campaign.
Surajbhan Singh Defeated Lalan Singh In Mokama
Lallan Singh’s record against Surajbhan Singh hasn’t been favourable. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Surajbhan Singh’s wife, Veena Devi, contested the Munger seat on an LJP ticket, while Lallan Singh was the JDU candidate.
Surajbhan Singh personally led the campaign for his wife, Veena Devi. In the 2014 general elections, Lallan Singh polled 2,43,827 votes but lost to LJP candidate Veena Devi, who secured 3,52,911 votes, an outcome largely credited to Surajbhan Singh’s campaign strategy.
Anant Singh, Surajbhan Singh, and Lalan Singh, all from the Bhumihar community, have significant connections to the Munger Lok Sabha area and Mokama assembly seat. The Dularchand Yadav murder case saw Anant Singh accusing Surajbhan Singh of involvement, further fuelling their rivalry. Winning in this constituency grants Bhumihar leaders a notable status in state politics, especially within their community.
As the 2025 assembly elections approach, Lalan Singh and Surajbhan Singh are once again indirectly pitted against each other. The political dynamics in Mokama have everyone eagerly anticipating the outcome of this pivotal contest.
