Bihar Groom Abducted From Wedding Mandap By Dancers After Dispute; Rescued After 9 Hours

A wedding celebration in Gopalganj, Bihar, turned chaotic when the groom was abducted from the mandap by dancers hired for the event.

The incident occurred on Friday night during a traditional “Launda Nach" performance in Dighwa Dubouli village. A dispute over ending the performance escalated into violence, leading to the groom’s abduction.

According to reports, the groom, Sonu Kumar Sharma, had completed his wedding rituals and was engaged in post-ceremony activities when tensions flared.

Guests insisted the dancers continue performing, but the troupe wanted to leave. The disagreement led to a physical altercation, during which a dancer named Muskan Kinnar was injured and taken to the hospital.

“The groom was completing the wedding rituals in the mandap. After dinner, the guests (baraatis) were watching the dance performance. The dancers wanted to end the programme, which angered the guests. Meanwhile, a fight broke out with the dancers. A dancer, Muskan Kinnar, was injured in the altercation and was taken to the hospital," said an official.

At around 2 am, Muskan returned with her group, allegedly assaulted members of the bride’s family, and forcibly took the groom from the venue.

The police launched an investigation and, after nine hours, rescued Sharma from Siwan district.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and have not ruled out further arrests.

“Upon receiving information about the groom’s abduction, the police quickly responded and recovered him. A dispute had erupted between the organisers, guests and the dance party over issues related to payment," Gopalganj SP Awdhesh Dixit was quoted as saying by TOI.

The wedding, held at the residence of Surendra Sharma, had been going smoothly until the dramatic abduction unfolded like a scene straight out of a movie.
