A man died on Tuesday morning after being struck by the Patna–Howrah Vande Bharat Express at Barh railway station, under the Danapur division of the East Central Railway (ECR). The incident, which has raised fresh concerns over passenger safety near railway tracks, occurred around 9 am at platform number 2.
According to Danapur RPF Commandant Uday Singh Pawar, the victim had reportedly moved close to the edge of the platform to spit after chewing tobacco just as the semi-high-speed train was approaching the station.
In a split second, the speeding Vande Bharat Express hit him, causing severe head injuries and throwing him back onto the platform.
Bakhtiyarpur RPF Inspector Jawhar Lall said that personnel from the Barh RPF and Government Railway Police (GRP) rushed to the spot and immediately took the injured man to Barh Sadar Hospital. Despite the efforts of doctors, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
GRP officials at Barh have registered a case of unnatural death (UD) and initiated an investigation into the incident.
Following the tragedy, railway authorities from the Danapur division and the RPF issued a strong advisory, urging passengers to maintain a safe distance from the edge of platforms during the arrival and departure of trains to prevent such accidents in the future.
