PATNA: A bank manager, Abhishek Varun, who had been missing for two days was found dead in a dry well in Patna’s Beur area on Tuesday morning. The body was discovered during a police investigation following a missing person complaint filed by his family. The missing report was filed by the victim’s wife at Kankerbagh police station on Monday. During the inquiry, police discovered his slippers near a well in Beur. On inspection, his body was found inside the well, around 30 feet deep, with his scooter lying over him. Abhishek, a resident of Malahi Pakri and an employee at the Kankerbagh branch of ICICI Lombard, had attended a friend’s anniversary celebration with his family on Sunday.
He went missing later that night. Sushil Kumar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Phulwarisharif, said, “Abhishek disappeared on July 13 after departing from Ganpati Utsav Hall at 10 pm on his scooter. His family filed a missing report the following day. A body and a scooter were discovered inside a well on Tuesday morning. The incident appears to be accidental due to the well's lack of boundary walls, making it possible for the scooter to have slipped in.
The authorities are conducting an investigation into the matter.” According to police, CCTV footage showed Abhishek riding alone on his scooter at 10:48 pm, appearing intoxicated. Around midnight, he reportedly called his wife, stating he had met with an accident. His phone was switched off soon after, prompting a search operation by authorities. Additional SHO of Kankerbagh, Dharmendra Kumar, said the police are probing all angles — including accidental fall, influence of alcohol or drugs, and potential foul play — to determine the exact cause of death.
