Bilaspur Train Accident: One Loco Pilot Among 11 Killed, Assistant Critical In Hospital

A tragic train collision near Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh claimed 11 lives, including a loco pilot, while his assistant remains hospitalised in critical condition.

One of the two loco pilots has died, while the assistant loco pilot, a woman, is fighting for her life after a tragic train collision near Jairamnagar station in Bilaspur district, Chhattisgarh, on Tuesday.

11 Killed, several injured

At least 11 people lost their lives and several others were injured when a MEMU local train (No. 68733) travelling from Gevra Road to Bilaspur rammed into a stationary goods train on the up line between Gatora and Bilaspur around 4 p.m. 

Injured passengers were taken to nearby hospitals. Railway officials said an investigation has been ordered to determine the cause of the collision.

Videos from the site showed the first coach of the MEMU train mounted on the goods train, while locals and authorities joined hands in rescue operations amid the mangled debris.
