The Lok Sabha on Wednesday witnessed stormy protests as the government introduced three controversial bills mandating the removal of the Prime Minister, Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, or Ministers of State if jailed for 30 consecutive days on serious criminal charges.
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi strongly opposed the move, warning it violates the federal structure and constitutional protections, and empowers executive agencies to act as “judge, jury and executioner.” He compared the proposal to the Nazi Gestapo and cautioned that such an amendment could turn India into a “police state.”
