The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Chennai, organised a two-day mentor reinforcement training programme on “Learning Science via Standards” for science teachers in Vellore, starting from Thursday.
According to a press release, Hareesh Sampath, Section Officer, BIS, said that the programme was aimed at strengthening students’ scientific understanding by linking core science concepts with quality and standardization practices. Through specially designed lesson plans, BIS demonstrates how scientific principles operate in everyday products, thereby reinforcing classroom learning in a practical and relatable manner, he said.
R. Muninarayana, Director, BIS(Chennai), underlined the role of BIS in formulating national standards and encouraging their adoption across sectors. He emphasized the importance of academic institutions in the mission, noting that equipping students with knowledge about quality and standards prepares them to become future contributors to the nation’s quality ecosystem.
The sessions covered topics like standardization, certification, testing, training, and academic outreach. Around 35 teachers attended the programme, the release said.
