BJP’s national IT cell chief Amit Malviya on Saturday accused West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu of “warning" police officials and civil servants against following the directions from the Election Commission ahead of high-stakes assembly elections.
Malviya termed Basu’s remarks a serious threat to “institutional integrity", urging action against him by the poll body.
In a post on X, Malviya wrote, “Bratya Basu, education minister in Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet, warning police officers and civil servants of consequences if they follow directions from the Election Commission of India is not a trivial matter, it strikes at the heart of institutional integrity. (sic)"

Malviya emphasised that public servants are duty-bound to act in accordance with the law and comply with instructions from constitutional authorities. “Public servants are bound to uphold the law and follow the directives of constitutional bodies. Any attempt to intimidate or pressure them undermines that framework," he stated.
Malviya Shares Basu’s Video
Alongside the post, the BJP leader also shared a video of the TMC leader wherein he made a remark directed at police volunteers working under the Election Commission, cautioning them about potential consequences in the future.
The Bengal minister suggested that while some officials may expect to retire in 2026, others would remain in service beyond that, and warned that actions perceived as “backstabbing" Bengal could have repercussions if the current state government returns to power.
The remarks come amid heightened political tensions, with opposition parties frequently raising concerns about the functioning of institutions during the electoral process. So far, there has been no immediate response from Basu or the ruling Trinamool Congress to Malviya’s allegations
