Accusing the Congress government in Karnataka of targeting BJP leaders and Hindutva activists, the BJP State core committee has asked party leaders and workers to come to the streets if need be to resist them.

Talking to media after the core committee meeting on May 29, BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra said the committee had taken exception to the alleged targeting of BJP leaders and workers, including Chalavadi Narayanaswamy who was illegally detained in Kalaburagi district, N. Ravikumar, against whom an FIR has been filed, and Hindutva activist Suhas Shetty who was recently murdered in Mangaluru.

The core committee had asked the State unit to instil confidence among the cadre, party workers and leaders by making it clear to them that there is no question of buckling under fear. The party leaders would soon embark upon a tour of Karnataka, and the schedule would be finalised soon, he said.

He said the Core Committee had decided to constitute teams of senior leaders for different revenue divisions in the State to tour the districts in their divisions to strengthen the party ahead of zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat elections, and also monitor the preparations for these local bodies’ polls.
