The BJP district unit has demanded that the State government release immediate compensation to farmers whose crops have suffered damage due to extensive rainfall in the district.
Addressing a joint press conference in Yadgir on Thursday, district BJP president Basavarajappa Vibutihalli and vice-president Chandrasekhar Magnur said that the district received torrential rainfall for a couple of weeks last month causing extensive damage to crops and also, houses.
“The district targeted 4.18 lakh hectares for cultivation during the kharif season. Farmers began sowing after there was sufficient rainfall before and even after the arrival of monsoon, covering more than 90% of sowing,” they said.
“But torrential rainfall that lashed the district for a couple of weeks last month has caused heavy crop damage, particularly in cotton, green gram and other minor crops, triggering a loss of nearly ₹80 crore. However, the State government has failed to release compensation to the affected farmers,” they said.
Mr. Vibhutihalli and Mr. Magnur demanded that ₹50,000 per acre be released immediately to compensate the financial loss of farmers.
Meanwhile, Mr. Vibhutihalli welcomed the Central government’s decision on GST relaxation.
