Former Minister and senior BJP leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy has demanded an immediate Special Intensive Revision (SIR)of electoral rolls across the 24 Assembly constituencies under the GHMC limits.

Addressing a press conference at the state office on Tuesday (August 26, 2025), he said the party will also be submitting a memorandum to the Election Commission on the issue as SIR within the GHMC is essential before the local body elections.

He called for strict action against those who have registered here as voters despite belonging to other constituencies or states and claimed that a large number of people from border districts of neighbouring states like Karnataka and Maharashtra have registered as voters here and are casting votes.

“It’s not just about duplicate votes. We had already filed complaints about similar issues in areas like Nirmal and Bodhan,” he said. The Congress party’s campaign “Vote Adhikari Yatra” and “Vote Theft” is completely, he said.

In a separate development, the party has appealed to the State Government to have a rethink of opening integrated sub-registrar offices in the capital region by putting three to four offices in a single modern building as it is bound to cause inconvenience to citizens.

In a memorandum submitted to the Inspector General of Registration and Stamps R. Hanumanthu, party leaders led by Medchal urban district president S. Malla Reddy, has said each sub-registrar office gets more than 100 visitors a day and integrating several offices in a single building will only increase the footfalls by five folds leading to parking and other issues.

Instead, the suggestion is to open new modern sub-registrar offices with ample parking, drinking water and toilet facilities near the existing offices since there is no dearth of government lands in these areas. The Government has sought to open 11 integrated registration offices in the place of existing 39 offices in Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal and Sangareddy districts. Citizens will also have to travel to longer distances once these become operational.

The party also sought speedy registration processes by ensuring there is no system breakdowns. Medchal district rural president B. Srinivas, Rangareddy urban president V. Srinivas Reddy, Rangareddy rural president P. Rajbhupal Goud and others were present, said a press release.
