The BJP is expected to take several major organisational and government-level decisions across states and at the national level after the results of Assembly polls for four states and Puducherry are out on May 4. According to party sources, May could see the implementation of multiple long-pending moves, including leadership appointments and cabinet reshuffles.

One of the most significant developments is likely to be a reshuffle and expansion in the Uttar Pradesh government led by Yogi Adityanath, where Assembly polls are scheduled for February next year.

Sources told India Today TV that preparations for the long-awaited cabinet expansion have largely been completed. Apart from filling vacant ministerial positions, changes in the portfolios of some existing ministers are also being considered.

Party insiders indicated that former UP BJP chief Bhupendra Chaudhary is likely to return to the state cabinet. The reshuffle is expected to take regional and caste equations into account in view of the upcoming elections.

Alongside changes in the government, a new state BJP team under current president Pankaj Chaudhary may also be formed, with electoral considerations expected to shape both the organisation and cabinet structure.

In Bihar, an expansion of the cabinet led by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary is also expected. According to the BJP–JD(U) power-sharing arrangement, both the parties are likely to get 16 ministerial berths each.

Sources said portfolios currently held by Samrat Choudhary are expected to go to ministers from the BJP quota, while departments held by the two JD(U) Deputy Chief Ministers may be reassigned to ministers from the JD(U) share.

At the national level, the team of BJP president Nitin Nabin is also expected to be finalised soon. Party leaders said the new organisational structure is likely to include a mix of experienced and younger faces, with more than 33 per cent representation for women.

Overall, May is expected to be a crucial month for the BJP, with a series of political and organisational decisions aimed at strengthening governance, balancing social equations and preparing the party for upcoming elections.
