BJP functionary’s son among two held for robbery near Katpadi

A BJP functionary’s son and his friend were arrested by Brahmapuram police near Katpadi on Sunday for robbing an engineering college student of ₹25,000.

Police said the arrested persons were identified as K. Rohit, 20, a college drop-out, and his friend S. Vicky, 22, a college student. Both of them belong to Katpadi. Rohit is the son of K.G. Kutty, deputy president, State BJP unit (Minorities wing).

Initial inquiry revealed that after discontinuing his studies, Rohit and his gang used to roam in Katpadi and surrounding areas. On Friday night, police said Rohit led a gang into the house of S. Mahesh, 21, a student in a private engineering college in Katpadi. After searching his house, they took away ₹25,000 from the cupboard in the house.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered by Brahmapuram police. Special teams were formed to nab the suspects, who were rounded up from their hideouts near Katpadi. They were arrested. A probe is under way.
