The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s West Bengal unit is gearing up for state assembly elections scheduled six months from now. Senior party leaders Bhupendra Yadav and Biplab Deb have already held two rounds of meetings with local leaders to fine-tune the party’s strategy.

Sources told News18 that the BJP is planning a mega yatra across Bengal soon. It is expected to be a large-scale political campaign involving leaders from the grassroots level to senior figures from the national leadership. Both Yadav and Deb are likely to spend considerable time in Bengal in the coming months to oversee preparations.

A senior BJP leader told News18, “This yatra across Bengal will be extremely significant. It’s not just an outreach programme—it’s an opportunity to understand what people expect from us. The TMC will go out of power this time, that’s for sure. We want to assure the people that we will bring real change to Bengal, and that assurance matters."

Political observers believe that such a state-wide yatra could benefit the BJP in several ways. First, it would allow the party to connect with people in every corner of Bengal, gauging public sentiment on the ground. Second, it would help the party project its narrative that the ruling Trinamool Congress has failed the state, highlighting issues like corruption, demographic imbalance, and alleged attacks on Adivasi leaders.

The yatra is also expected to serve as a platform for the BJP to present its vision for change—what the party plans to deliver if voted to power.

According to party sources, preliminary discussions and planning for the event are already complete. Insiders say the leadership is also factoring in past challenges such as administrative hurdles and denial of permissions for rallies, which often led the party to approach courts. Despite these obstacles, they insist that this time, the yatra will go ahead without fail.

Ahead of the 2021 assembly elections, the BJP had organised a similar state-wide “Rath Yatra", inaugurated by party president JP Nadda. That campaign faced several controversies, including allegations that the state government denied permission for the rallies—a claim refuted by the TMC. The yatra then was marred by incidents of violence, with the BJP alleging attacks on its workers.

With the new yatra set to roll out soon, all eyes are once again on how Bengal’s political battlefield will unfold.
