A non-cognisable report (NCR) has been lodged by BJP MLA Rajeev Singh from Babina following a scuffle on the New Delhi–Bhopal Vande Bharat Express, officials said Friday (June 20, 2025)

The incident occurred Thursday (June 19, 2025) evening over a seat dispute and an alleged objectionable sitting posture. The confrontation escalated at Jhansi station, where a passenger was allegedly assaulted by individuals linked to the MLA.

Jhansi Railway SP Vipul Kumar Srivastava said the assaulted passenger had indicated he would file a complaint after reaching Bhopal, but as of Friday afternoon, no such complaint had been received by Bhopal railway police. “Appropriate action will be taken based on CCTV footage once a complaint is filed,” he said.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Jhansi confirmed receiving a complaint from MLA Singh and registered an NCR based on his written application.

According to Mr. Singh, he was travelling with his wife and son when a co-passenger behaved indecently. When confronted, the man allegedly misbehaved further and later summoned others at Jhansi station, who also acted abusively.

Initial reports suggest the altercation began when a passenger refused to vacate a seat, allegedly at the MLA’s or his supporters’ request. The man was then assaulted at the station.

Police say further action will depend on the second party’s formal complaint.
