BJP MLA from Dharamshala Sudhir Sharma Monday submitted a notice for a privilege motion against Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for “misleading the House” and submitting incorrect replies pertaining to government jobs provided by the Congress dispensation and other issues. Sharma, a former Cabinet minister, also shared a copy of the three-page notice on his Facebook page.
Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania confirmed that the legislator has given a notice in writing. “The matter is under serious consideration of the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat and the facts are being examined,” the Speaker told mediapersons outside the Assembly.
When told that the MLA has uploaded the notice on social media platforms, Pathania said it cannot be shared as it is still under consideration. “The notices cannot be given for mere publicity. There are rules if the notice is baseless,” he said, adding that appropriate action will be taken “at the relevant time”.
Earlier, in a communication to the Speaker, Sharma said that he wishes to “move a privilege motion against the chief minister under the relevant Rules of Procedure” for allegedly misleading the House by making false statements on several occasions.
Sharma, in his notice, said that on multiple occasions in the past, CM Sukhu placed incorrect information in the House. He alleged said the CM’s statements did not correspond to facts, and statements regarding government policies and announcements.
“These statements have misled not only the House but also the public at large. I request that this matter may kindly be taken up as a case of breach of privilege and appropriate action be initiated against the chief minister, so that no member dares to mislead this august House in future,” Sharma said, as per the letter he shared on Facebook.
As per the letter, CM submitted incorrect information pertaining to government jobs provided in the state during Congress rule, Aadarsh Swasth Sansthan, Pet Scan machine, Dearness Allowance of government employees and electricity bill of a Cabinet rank MLA. Sharma further urged the Speaker to bring the privilege motion against the CM into the House during the ongoing monsoon session.
