The appointment of the BJP State president will be based on institutional elections and not by nominations by the party high command, Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, said in Hubballi on Sunday.
The practice in the BJP is that the appointments of presidents at all levels is done on institutional elections. “We do not follow the practice of the party high command choosing leaders as presidents. This is followed from the booth to the national level,” he said.
He dismissed, as rumours, reports that the BJP was considering a woman for the post of the national president and the replacement of B.Y. Vijayendra as the State president. “We are a democratic party and these appointments will be done in a democratic manner.”
In Dharwad, Aravind Bellad, MLA, said that he had no idea about who the national and the State presidents would be. “But one thing that I am sure is that the choice of the new presidents will not be based on family politics. Unlike the Congress, we do not follow nepotism,” Mr. Bellad said.
