West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday claimed that he has been receiving threat calls from Pakistan, and even from Bangladesh.

Notably, the BJP leader’s remarks come at a time when the country is on high alert following the recent explosion in Delhi, which has sparked speculation about the involvement of the terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Amid such an atmosphere, Adhikari’s allegation has drawn considerable attention, with the ruling Trinamool questioning why Pakistan or Bangladesh would threaten him at all.

TMC spokesperson Arup Chakraborty dismissed the claim, saying, “He’s losing relevance. By making such statements, he’s trying to stay afloat within his party."

Following the Delhi blast, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted a raid in Murshidabad on Wednesday, acting on specific intelligence inputs. The search was carried out at the house of a migrant worker.

Commenting on the situation, Suvendu Adhikari said, “Jihadis consider Bengal to be a safe haven. And we are the ones getting threat calls. Just two days ago, I received a threat call from Pakistan."

The Nandigram MLA added that he had already informed the concerned authorities about the matter. He further claimed, “It’s not just Pakistan, I get threat calls from Bangladesh every day. Everyone knows my WhatsApp number."

The ruling Trinamool Congress, however, has brushed off his claims.

According to spokesperson Arup Chakraborty, Adhikari is making such remarks because he is being sidelined even within his own party, the BJP.

“He’s not getting any importance there. After the party’s Lok Sabha tally dropped from 18 to 12 seats, his preferred candidate wasn’t made the state president. He’s being pushed aside within the BJP. Since he’s losing ground, he’s making these cheap statements just to stay in the news," Chakraborty said.
