The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced plans to develop a spiritual corridor around the temple city of Tirupati with the aim of spreading its divine and cultural aura.
The party’s State president, P.V.N. Madhav, who was in Tirupati on Tuesday as part of his tour of the Rayalaseema districts, emphasized the need to protect the sanctity of the city as a “divine destination.”
“With its wealth of temples and heritage sites, Tirupati deserves to be promoted as an aesthetic, serene, and spiritually uplifting pilgrim destination,” Mr. Madhav said.
In this context, he also raised concerns over the presence of employees belonging to other faiths in the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). He urged the State government to immediately transfer such employees to other government departments, calling this a matter of priority to uphold the institution’s spiritual ethos.
Criticising the previous YSR Congress regime, Mr. Madhav described it as a “period of devastation,” alleging that funds meant for the poor were misused for political ends. He accused the former government of diverting grants allocated by the 14th and 15th Finance Commissions to Village Panchayats, and squandering public money.
During his visit, Mr. Madhav also called on Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham senior pontiff, Sri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamy, who is observing Chaturmasya Deeksha at the Tirupati branch of the Mutt, and sought his blessings.
