Blinded by love for her maternal uncle, a woman in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, allegedly orchestrated her husband's murder just 45 days after their wedding, believing he was a hurdle in her illicit relationship. Police have arrested three individuals, including the mastermind, Goonja Singh - the wife of the victim, Priyanshu alias Chhotu - who was shot dead on the night of June 24.
According to police, Priyanshu was returning to his village on a bike when he was ambushed and fatally shot with the help of contract killers. "Jeevan hired contract shooters, and just 45 days after the marriage, they executed the murder," said Aurangabad Superintendent of Police Ambrish Rahul.
The SP revealed that Goonja Singh was in an illicit relationship with her maternal uncle, Jeevan Singh. After her marriage to Priyanshu, she considered him an obstacle in her continued relationship with Jeevan. Unable to sustain the affair, Goonja and Jeevan allegedly decided to eliminate Priyanshu.
"To crack the case, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed," SP Rahul said. "Using call detail record (CDR) analysis, an in-depth review of CCTV footage, and specific intelligence inputs, Goonja Singh along with two others - Jayshankar and Mukesh Sharma - were arrested."
During interrogation, Goonja confessed her involvement in the deadly conspiracy. "She admitted to being part of the murderous plot," the SP confirmed, adding that efforts are ongoing to arrest other accused individuals still at large.
Police further stated that Goonja did not want to marry Priyanshu but did so under pressure from her father.
