The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Wednesday launched communication satellite BlueBird Block-2 on the heavy-lift rocket LVM3 in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
ISRO said the this is a dedicated commercial mission onboard the LVM3 launch vehicle, that launched the BlueBird Block-2 communication satellite of AST SpaceMobile, USA, marking the sixth operational flight of LVM3.
BlueBird Block-2 is part of a new generation of satellites that enables space-based cellular broadband services. These allow direct connectivity to regular mobile smartphones without the need for specialised equipment.
.The LVM3-M6 will place the BlueBird Block-2 satellite into Low Earth Orbit. It is the largest commercial communications satellite and will also be the heaviest payload to be launched by LVM3 from Indian soil.
