The bodies of the three youngsters who were washed away in river Tungabhadra at Mantralayam on Saturday evening were fished out on Sunday morning. A group of seven youngsters studying various degree courses had visited Mantralayam on Friday morning via train. They had darshan at the Manchalamma temple and also at Raghavendra Swamy’s Brindavanam.

The youngsters also visited other temples in the pilgrim town and vacated their room around 4 p.m. as they had to catch a train to leave to their native places. Before reaching the railway station, they went to the Tungabhadra river bank and were having a good time, when one of the deceased, Sachin (20), slipped into the water. His friends, Pramod (20) and Ajith (19), tried to rescue him and they too were swept away by the current, police said. Another youngster, Raghunath, tried to pull his friends to the shore, but he too got swept away. Luckily, the locals rescued him.

A post-mortem was conducted and bodies were handed over to the parents.
