The body of a 10-year-old girl who went missing in the Cherupuzha river at Manipuram near Koduvally in Kozhikode was recovered on Sunday (September 7) after a three-day search. The victim was identified as Thanha Sherin.
The accident occurred around 4.30 p.m. on September 5, when the girl, who had gone to the riverbank with her mother and other relatives, reportedly slipped and fell into the river. Her body was recovered nearly 2 km away from the accident site.
According to the police, the heavy water flow made it difficult for rescue squads to carry out searches late at night on the day of the accident. The assistance of a specialised scuba diving team was later sought to coordinate the rescue operations, they added.
