Body of man who jumped off Sanvordem bridge found

Margao: The body of a 37-year-old man who jumped into the Zuari river from the Sanvordem bridge on Saturday afternoon was recovered after a 24-hour search operation by fire brigade teams, Curchorem police and the Navy.The deceased, identified as Sammy (Sunny) Fernandes, a resident of Morailem, Curchorem, was seen sitting near the bridge before he jumped into the river, locals said. The search, which commenced Saturday afternoon, was called off at 7 pm and resumed Sunday morning. The body was recovered around 5pm on Sunday.The incident has prompted demands for the installation of railings on the Sanvordem bridge to prevent such incidents. Further investigation is under way by Curchorem police.
