Body of one-month-old baby girl found in drain

The body of a one-month-old baby girl was found in a drain at Rajiv Gandhi Nagar on Tuesday afternoon, prompting an investigation by the Santosh Nagar police.

The incident came to light around 3 p.m. after locals spotted the body floating in the nala and alerted police through Dial 100. A police team rushed to the spot, retrieved the infant’s body, and shifted it to Osmania General Hospital for postmortem.

Santosh Nagar Inspector K. Satyanarayana said two special teams have been formed to identify the child and trace her family. “We have written to maternity hospitals seeking records of babies born in the past month,” he said.

The absence of CCTV cameras near the area is making the probe more challenging, the official said.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
