Body washes ashore at Arthunkal

A partially decomposed body of a man washed ashore near the Ayiramthai fish landing centre under Arthunkal police station limits on Tuesday.

The body, which is fair-skinned and well-built, is suspected to be one of the missing crew members from the cargo ship MV Wan Hai 503, which caught fire at sea off Kannur coast on June 9 following an explosion.

“The body was found around 6.15 a.m. It appears to be that of a 50 year-old foreign national. We are in the process of gathering more information and identifying the body,” said an official.

The body has been shifted to the morgue of Government Medical College Hospital, Alappuzha.

The Singapore-flagged vessel had a 22-member crew. While 18 were rescued, four remain missing.
