 Walkathon, River Cleaning, and Sustainable Practices Highlighted

Bokaro: A mega drive, which began on April 14 in the district, culminated with a walkathon from Bokaro airport to Garga bridge, followed by extensive cleaning along the Garga riverbank on World Earth Day on Wednesday.Ajay Nath Jha, deputy commissioner, mayor Bholu Paswan and other officials participated in the drive and urged citizens to adopt sustainable practices. Jha stressed that “cleanliness must become a continuous habit” and called for large-scale plantation, reduction of plastic use and mandatory rainwater harvesting.He also highlighted the need to draw inspiration from tribal traditions that emphasise harmony with nature.

Participants were administered a pledge to keep water bodies clean and avoid single-use plastic.Schools across Bokaro also observed Earth Day with enthusiasm. At Delhi Public School, students took part in activities based on the theme, ‘Our Power, Our Planet’. At The Pentecostal Assembly School, students from pre-primary to senior classes engaged in assemblies, cultural programmes and awareness campaigns focusing on plantation, water conservation and sustainable living practices.

A private steel company is nurturing Miyawaki forests with over 70,000 native saplings, expected to absorb up to 1,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, alongside bird conservation efforts.“We are committed to creating a positive and lasting impact on the environment and surrounding communities,” said Ravish Sharma, deputy CEO & director of the company.
