'She was hiding a filmmaker'; paid attention to every detail

Some memories simply refuse to fade. For Boney Kapoor, his late wife Sridevi is still one of them. In a candid chat with Komal Nahta on the Game Changers: Producers’ Series podcast, he revealed a side of her that not many had the chance to see.

To the world, she was India’s first female superstar.

To him, she was something more—a complete creative powerhouse. “She was everything you said,” he recalled warmly. “She was also hiding a filmmaker in herself.”

Sridevi paid attention to every detail

Sridevi was never the kind of actor who waited for instructions. She paid attention to every detail: the way the lights fell, the shades of her makeup, and even the mood her hairstyle created. “She would just stand and make out that the light is not perfect.

She would do half her makeup herself; she used to decide what hairstyle goes with what costume; she used to guide, rather than give a sketch, to the designer quite a few times,” Boney shared.Recalling the shoot of 'Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja,' he said that she was unhappy with the costumes; Sridevi had the designer flown to Kashmir to rework them. “She changed the whole color theme; in bargain, I had to change the whole set theme to match it,” he laughed.

The legacy Sridevi left behind

Her influence wasn’t just felt in cinema. It left a lasting mark on fashion too. “You can check with Manish Malhotra how much she has contributed to their growth. I can honestly say that about her,” Boney noted.
