A “Book Lovers Walk” was organised as part of the third Ongole Book Festival in Ongole on Thursday. The book lovers, followed by artists playing drums, walked with placards related to books from NTR statue near Addanki Bus Stand to the book exhibition premises at P.V.R. High School.
Andhra Pradesh Press Academy Chairman Alapati Suresh Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion, while educationist and former MLC Vitapu Balasubrahmanyam and Prakasam District Joint Collector R. Gopalakrishna were the guests of honour.
In the meeting held after the walk, Mr. Suresh Kumar spoke about the importance of education and reading books. Mr. Balasubrahmanyam said that book fairs help in bringing books to the masses. He urged book fair organisers to not limit themselves to popular books but also to showcase books that foster rational and scientific sentiments among the people.
AP Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) President I.V. Subba Rao also participated in the event.
