Efforts to resume the normal functioning of gas-based crematoriums continue to face setbacks in Kozhikode district due to delays in obtaining the required stock. Although oil companies have assured that the issue will be resolved soon, there is still no clarity on when the supply will be delivered, even as the service is now being projected as essential by local administrators.
Officials with the Kozhikode Corporation’s health wing said efforts were underway to complete the maintenance of the electric crematorium at Smrithipatham near Mavoor Road in Kozhikode city. According to them, the facility can be made functional within two days to resume bookings.
“Though the gas-based crematorium is not functional now, cremation services using the traditional method are available. Discussions are still underway to address the concerns related to the gas crematorium,” said a Health Inspector with the City Corporation. He also clarified that there is no move to shut down the operation of the crematorium, though there are regulations on bookings.
