Boy who went on rampage at Karnataka school hostel, attacked sleeping students with iron rod, killing 1, arrested

BALLARI: A class 9 student was apprehended after he allegedly went on a rampage at a private residential school, killing one person and injuring others with a sharp object and an iron rod, police said on Tuesday.The boy, absconding since Saturday night’s incident, was caught on the outskirts of the city on Monday, police said."We have taken the boy into custody, and he is currently being counselled. A panel of doctors are conducting his medical examination as per protocol," a senior police officer said.The exact motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, an official said.According to police, the incident occurred at a school hostel on Saturday night when nine students were under the supervision of a social science teacher, who also serves as the hostel warden.

In a fit of rage, the accused allegedly attacked the students indiscriminately. One student died in the assault, while seven others sustained injuries.The students were reportedly asleep in the hostel after dinner when the boy attacked his peers with an iron rod and a sharp object.Sources suspect that a minor dispute may have triggered the incident.Brucepet police have registered a case, and an investigation is on.
