Brandon T. Jackson says it would be wrong to cancel comedian Druski over his NASCAR skit. The actor, best known for playing Alpa Chino in the 2008 movie Tropic Thunder, compared Druski’s performance to Robert Downey Jr.
’s bold role in that film. In the skit, Druski went undercover in full makeup and a redneck-style outfit at a race on September 2, 2025, in Daytona Beach, Florida. The video quickly went viral, sparking online debate about race, comedy, and how far a joke should go. Brandon says canceling Druski would be like erasing one of comedy’s bravest moments.

Brandon T. Jackson sees a direct correlation between the skit that went viral by Druski and Tropic Thunder.
In Tropic Thunder, Robert Downey Jr., played a white man in blackface, and the role received a lot of attention when Tropic Thunder was released by theaters.
Brandon stated to TMZ that when Downey Jr., portrayed the character, he even stayed in character off camera, which made that role memorable. “He may have taken it too far for some people, but that’s why it worked,” Brandon said.He believes Druski used the same approach by staying fully in disguise during the NASCAR event.
Brandon explained that comedy is supposed to spark thought, even when it makes people uncomfortable. To him, Druski’s skit was not cruel but daring, and he respects the risk it took to create conversation.

Druski’s NASCAR Skit and the big debate
On September 2, Druski appeared at the NASCAR race disguised as a white Southern man wearing pale makeup, a cowboy hat, and overalls. The video gained traction on X, TikTok, or Instagram. Viewers had mixed opinions, some enjoyed his dedication and called it creative performance art.
Others criticized it, that it relied on too many stereotypes and was only supposed to shock.Brandon compared Druski to comedians like the Wayans brothers in White Chicks and the hilarious sketches of Dave Chappelle . "There is a fine line between funny and going too far, and Druski was close to that line, and did it the right way" he said.For Brandon, Druski is in the same arena as Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence comedians that dared to push boundaries and helped shape culture.
