Breach of privilege proceedings set to begin in Kunal Kamra case

MUMBAI: Maharashtra legislative council chairperson Ram Shinde admitted a breach of privilege motion against stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra over his parody song alluding to deputy CM Eknath Shinde and referred it to privilege committee.

The motion was moved in March by BJP MLC Pravin Darekar. The committee will review the motion and decide on issuing a notice to Kamra."The committee will take a call on further action," Ram Shinde told TOI. Officials said the panel will meet ahead of monsoon session of the state legislature starting June 30, and Kamra may receive a notice early next month.Reacting, Kamra said on X, "The real breach of trust is letting people die in public transport every day." BJP MLC Prasad Lad, who heads the privilege committee, did not respond to calls and text messages on Saturday.
