Breaking bad in Punjab: Govt school teacher, woman arrested with 1kg heroin

Amritsar: A govt school teacher from Tarn Taran has been arrested along with another woman for allegedly smuggling 1kg heroin sent from Pakistan, said Amritsar commissioner of police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar on Thursday.Bhullar said Kulwinder Kaur (54) and Jasbir Kaur (40) were arrested with the heroin. The commissioner said Jasbir had been in touch with smugglers based in Pakistan. While Jasbir is from Dhala village in Tarn Taran, Kulwinder is a resident of Haveliyan village in Tarn Taran. Bhullar said Kulwinder taught primary classes.The commissioner added police also caught another 8kg heroin from four men. Bhullar said the accused had been identified as Honey (18) of Kale Ghanupur village in Amritsar, Parmdeep Singh alias Paras (18) of Jandiala Guru in Amritsar, Harwinder Singh alias Hinda (19) of Jandiala Guru in Amritsar, and Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi (25) of Dande village in Amritsar.Bhullar said preliminary investigation revealed that a foreign-based notorious gangster, identified as Harpreet alias Happy Jatt, had direct links with Pakistan-based smugglers and was running this network using social media platforms.

Bhullar said initially, Honey was arrested with 20gm heroin. During investigation, his accomplice identified as Parmdeep Singh alias Paras was nominated and subsequently arrested with 5kg heroin, said Bhullar.

In the course of investigation, two more members of the module — Harwinder Hinda and Gurpreet Gopi — were nominated and arrested. Bhullar said they seized 3kg heroin from the possession of Gurpreet.The commissioner said Gurpreet and Parmdeep used to receive narcotics consignments—dropped using drones from across the border—at pre-decided locations, including garbage piles or poles with signs. The arrested persons were further distributing the heroin consignments on the instructions of Happy Jatt, a native of Jandiala Guru, added Bhullar.
